Getting materials onto a project

Created by Turbo Support, Modified on Thu, 10 Sep at 3:21 PM by David Costello

Material reaches a project in three ways, and which you use depends on where the material is coming from.

1. Transferring stock you already hold

Use Material Transfer to move stock out of a warehouse location and onto a project. This is a proper picking operation, not a paper adjustment:

  1. Choose the From Location.
  2. Choose the To Project.
  3. Set the Date and record who it was Picked By.
  4. Add a Reference and Notes if you want them.
  5. Scan a Barcode or use Search to find each item.
  6. For each line you see Description, Batch Number, Unit Cost, Current Qty, the Quantity you're moving and the resulting New Qty.
  7. Click Complete.

Because unit cost and batch number come across, the project picks up the real cost of the material and its traceability at the same time.

2. Importing a materials list

Use Imports on the project list, or Import Parts for Order on the project itself, to bring in a bill of materials. Contact Turbo support to find out more and receive an Import Template.

If Always create RFQ when importing Project Material is switched on, importing the list also raises the Requests for Quote (RFQs) — see Project purchasing.

3. Booking goods in directly against the project

If When booking in a Goods Receipt linked to a Project, book the stock directly in as Material is switched on, anything received against the project lands on the project as material rather than going into general stock first.

Free entry

Free Entry lets you add a line that isn't a stocked product — a one-off bought-in item or a cost that doesn't have a product record.

Products versus Material

The project record separates the two: the Material tab holds raw material consumed by the job, the Products tab holds finished goods. Analytics reports them separately too — Project Inventory On Hand (Raw Material) and Project Inventory On Hand (Finished Goods).
