Setting up and using Linked Bin Locations

Trainer: Dave Joyce
Feature Update: Multi-bin location linking
Platform: Turbo Inventory (Desktop & Mobile)

Overview

In our latest Turbo Inventory update, we've introduced the ability to link bin locations within the same warehouse. This is especially useful for businesses managing high-volume or overflow stock across multiple physical bins — while still maintaining central control at the warehouse level.

This update enhances flexibility in picking, packing, and inventory management, without changing how quantities are tracked.

Bin Locations – Then vs Now

Previously:

  • Products could exist in multiple bins per warehouse.

  • Quantity was always tracked only at the warehouse-product level, not per bin.

  • There was no native way to group bins together for logical storage/picking.

Now:

  • You can link multiple bin locations together within a warehouse.

  • Linked bins act as logical extensions of a primary bin.

  • System recognizes all linked bins during picking, packing, and availability views.

How It Works

  • Setup in Settings & Tools

    • Navigate to Settings & Tools > Bin Locations

    • You’ll now see a new column: “Link To”

    • Example: Bin A002 linked to Bin A001

    • Optional fields:

      • Max Weight

      • Temperature/Frozen Flags

Linked bins must belong to the same warehouse. Cross-warehouse linking is not supported.

Product & Picking View

Product Profile

  • Primary bin still appears on the product record (e.g., A001)

  • Under Stock Availability, you'll now see:

    • The primary bin

    • All linked bins where the product is also stored

Picking (Desktop & Mobile)

  • When generating a picking list, the system shows all linked bins as valid pick locations

  • Users can pick from any linked bin (e.g., A001 or A002)

  • If bin scanning is required, either linked bin is accepted — incorrect bins (e.g., A003) will trigger an alert

Mobile App View

  • Linked bins are fully supported

  • Bins appear before and during picking

  • Ensures users know which bins to scan from right from the start

  • Scanning either bin in the group will validate the pick

Key Reminders

  • Quantities are tracked at the product level, per warehouse — not per bin

  • Bin linking only works within the same warehouse

  • Primary bin will be shown on reports and views where specific bin-level activity isn't relevant

Benefits

  • Simplifies warehouse layout logic

  • Increases picking speed and flexibility

  • Reduces bin-related pick errors

  • Supports better organization for high-turnover products
